FORGE Story
Two years after the EDSA I Revolution, a group of community organizers decided to set up a social development organization which would pursue the empowerment agendum facilitated by the newly-acquired democratic space.
After its inception, FORGE started with a Training and Community Organizing Program in Cebu City anchored on the founder’s conviction that autonomous and strong people’s organization are indispensable building blocks to a people-centered and sustainable development.
Through the years, FORGE has applied and adopted classical Community Organizing (CO) in its programs for prostituted women and children and urban poor communities in their struggle for land tenure. Aside from that the organization is also into barangay organizing towards participatory governance that entailed multi-stakeholders participation in participatory barangay development processes.
As a response to the spreading threat of AIDS, FORGE has also implemented an AIDS Surveillance and Education Project under its Health Program way back in the 90′s. This project has paved the way for FORGE work among prostituted women and children.
Having been around in social development work for almost 20 years and still counting, FORGE continues to strive and work for the realization of its Vision, Mission and Goals through its various programs.
FORGE was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in January1989 as a non-profit, non-stock organization.
